The United States government shut down on October 1.
Last night, President Obama signed a bill, reopening the United States Government after the House of Representatives approved the reopening on Wednesday.
This was the first government shutdown in 17 years. Democrats and the responsible republicans came together to bring back order to our nation. President Obama says there was no economic rationale for the shut down.
“Over the past four years, our economy has been growing, our businesses have been creating jobs, and our deficits have been cut in half,” President Obama said, “but nothing has done more to undermine our economy these past three years than the kind of tactics that create these manufactured crises.”
Where does this leave the government now?
President Obama believes that we can make progress in a budget that grows our economy and shrinks our long-term deficits, fixing our immigration system and passing a farm bill.
