Ship Students Learn about Mental Health

Gina Calhoun came to talk to Ship students in the Franklin Science Center about mental health with hopes to give students a new outlook on mental illness. Suffering from mental illness before, Calhoun shared with students that they are more likely to have their first psychotic break when they move away from home and go to college. She touched on the fact that students need to know that their mind is changing as they grow, “Being a young person today, just the whole focus on mental health and wellness is important to have so that people are aware, whether they are struggling or not they are aware that their life is changing, they are changing, and they want to keep very focused on health and wellness.” Tune into SUTV News on Thursday at 7 pm to learn how Ship is helping those with stress and mental illness through the help of the wellness center.Franklin Science Center
