#5 Ship Field Hockey defeats #1 East Stroudsburg

SHIPPENSBURG— There wasn’t a cloud in the sky over Robb Sports Complex on Wednesday afternoon when Shippensburg hosted East Stroudsburg. It was a battle between number 5 in the league and number 1. Both teams had something to prove. ESU rolled into Ship with an undefeated league record looking to add another win to the scorebooks. Ship was fighting to stay in the top 6 in the league to go onto the PSAC tournament and has won every game against ESU since 2010.
The game started out as every battle with a purpose should, with intensity. The teams were equally matched but neither could find the back of the net in the first half. Just over 12 minutes into the second half, Ship’s Katelyn Grazan and Emily Barnard had a break away from a cross-field pass by Kylie Huffman. Barnard passed to Grazan who found the back of the net putting Ship up 1-0.
As minutes ticked away, ESU scurried for that tying goal but Taylor Webster denied every shot, adding to her sixth shutout of the season. Shippensburg takes the win becoming their third straight win by a score of 1-0. The Raiders also ended ESU nine game winning streak.
Ship is now tied with West Chester for fourth place but lose the tie breaker due to less head-to-head victories. The Raiders travel to Greensburg this Saturday to play Seton Hill at noon.
