Women’s Soccer Hold Lock Haven for Chance in the Playoffs

SHIPPENSBURG–Last week there wasn’t a cloud in the sky. This week, there wasn’t a ray of sun to be found. The colder weather only means one thing for soccer players…the playoffs are right around the corner.

The women’s soccer team is fighting for a chance to go to the play offs. They hosted Lock Haven on Tuesday in a crucial PSAC match.

The first half was an equal battle with both teams having their fair share of opportunities.

As minutes ticked away in the second half, Ship’s Haley Jones crossed the ball to Brianna Brancato who took a shot that reflected off the goalie. Ashley Weaver was on the far side for the clean up and shot the ball into an open goal putting Ship up 1-0 in the 85th minute.

Lock Haven couldn’t counter and Ship took the win putting them to 10-6-1 in the conference.

The Raiders are now in a three-way tie for sixth place with East Stroudsburg and Bloomsburg. Ship’s home game against IUP on Saturday at 5 could be a deciding factor for the playoffs. If Ship loses, IUP will move ahead of the Raiders which will likely prevent them from going to the playoffs.
