SHIPPENSBURG— Shippensburg University Dance Troupe, In Motion, prepares to take the stage this weekend. 2016 is a hallmark year for them as they celebrate their thirtieth anniversary. Their show incorporates modern songs, as well as tributes to 1985 and 1986, the year that In Motion was created by two alum, Eileen Hutchinson and Brenda Kahn. Eileen and Brenda created the group to continue their love of dance and share it with others.
Dance isn’t the only element of Dance Troupe. They have special traditions such as big and littles, similar to sororities and go to the pumpkin patch around Halloween. In hopes of keeping spirits up during grueling practices, they have a secret buddy system where each member is assigned a “secret buddy” and they leave little surprises for each other before practices.
The school year starts out with practices for competition and they continue to work towards their show in the spring semester. Rehearsals begin at two hours a day, four days a week and then continue to gain hours even up to fifteen hours a day.
In Motion Dance Troupe performs Thursday and Friday at 8:00 PM, and Saturday at 2:00 PM. Tickets are sold at the door and are $3 for students and $6 for general public.
