Ship basketball teams take home wins

Shippensburg — Men’s and Women’s basketball has a busy week taking on East Stroudsburg Monday and Mansfield Wednesday. Both teams looking to bounce back from though losses at West Chester last Saturday.
The women came out strong Monday against East Stroudsburg leading the game by 13 points at the end of the first quarter. Fouls played an important role in the game for both teams, Ship went 16 for 19 at the line. East Stroudsburg didn’t give up and battled back to tie the game with a minute left in regulation. Heading into over time Logan Snyder put ship ahead two minutes in and the team was able to hold on to the lead winning 68 to 65.
For the men’s Monday game Tony Ellis but Ship on the board first sinking two free throws. By the end of the half East Stroudsburg was only trailing by 10 points but Ship dominated the second half never giving up the lead. Points off the bench for Ship played a key factor totaling 33. Ship defeated East Stroudsburg 74-69.
Wednesday’s game against Mansfield saw an offensive explosion from Ship’s women’s team. Mansfield had a strong first half but trailed Ship by 19 points at the close of the half. Ship’s offense was no match for Mansfield in the third quarter, Ship gained a lead of 25 points by the end of the quarter. Ship won the game 85-66.
The men’s game saw strong defense from both teams in the first half. Ship only lead by 4 going into half time. Mansfield’s defense forced 18 turnovers but was only able to capitalized on two. By the end of the second half ship was able to break open the game and defeat Mansfield 99-98.
Saturday the teams will head to Kutztown. Women’s tip off is at 1 and the men start at 3.
