SHIPPENSBURG–The men and women’s basketball teams both beat their rival Bloomsburg in an emotionally charged night this past Wednesday at Heiges Field House.
Along with being senior night for both squads, Ship also played host to a Make-a-Wish reveal at halftime of the ladies game.
The ladies lone senior Shaniece Jackson got the Raiders started with an assist and bucket early on, but it was Lauren Gold’s 17 second-half points that propelled the Raiders to the victory.
On the Men’s side, it was a tale of two halves. The men got out to start similar to their last game versus Bloom, holding a lead for the majority of the first half, but Bloom came roaring back to tie the game with less than a minute remaining. The men shot 0-9 from the field in that first stanza.
In the second half Bloom led, but four three-pointers and 20 points from Justin McCaurther gave the Raiders the spark they needed to overtake the huskies. The Raiders shot 50 percent in the second half in large part from McCaurther’s contribution.
With the wins, both the men and women’s teams clinch a home playoff game in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) tournament. The men will be in action this Saturday at 3 p.m., and the women Tuesday at 6 p.m. SUTV will have live coverage of both events on cable channel 21, campus channel 81, or online.
