Shippensburg, PA. – The men’s baseball team took on Shepherd Tuesday afternoon in a 9 inning game. Ship surrendered a run in the top of the first, but never looked back. They answered with a 4 run bottom of the first to give them the lead. The lead never switched hands after that as Raiders starting pitcher Kyle McMillen kept the raiders in the game going 5 innings picking up 5 strikeouts. He allowed 3 runs, all of them earned, and walked 2 batters.
The Raiders then turned it over to the bullpen who were lights out. Junior Josh Kutchey was the first on the mound out of the pen. He went two innings of shutout relief giving up only 1 walk and hit. He averaged a strikeout per inning.
Next out of the pen was Tyler Butcher. The freshmen would end up closing out the game for the Raiders as he too went 2 innings of relief. He allowed one run that was earned and picked up 2 strikeouts.
The Raiders offense was put on display as well as the 1 through 4 hitters combined to go 8 for 19 with one rbi, two stollen bases and a double. Second baseman Nick Spangler batted 6th and went 3 for 4 driving in 2 of the Raiders 7 runs.
The Raiders take on Mansfield in back to back games this weekend. They will be home on Friday and away on Saturday. Both games are double headers and start at 1.
