Great start lands Marcus Shippey Pitcher of the Week honors
April 7, 2016
Shippensburg, PA. – Shippensburg right hander Marcus Shippey was awarded PSAC Eastern League Pitcher of the Week after going 7 strong innings in his start against Mansfield last Friday. Shippey allowed only 2 hits, 1 walk, and 1 unearned run.
“To me I mean it’s a great accomplishment. You go against all these teams that have great pitchers and pitching staffs, just to be pitcher of the week shows that the hard work pays off,” said Shippey. “I was just locating in and out. Just hitting my spots. Just making sure I kept the ball down. I didn’t let them get a barrel on the ball. I just focus during the week about keeping the ball down and hitting my spots, working in and out, and keeping the hitters off balance to ultimately get them out as quickly as I can.”
Shippey, a senior, says he’s loved his time at Ship and that his favorite memory was pitching 4 shutout innings of relief in the Eastern League PSAC World Series his freshmen year. He hopes to possibly continue his baseball career after he graduates in May.
“Pitching in the World Series was special to me. To be able pitch like I did in that situation I think I proved to myself and others that I can handle pitching well in difficult situations,” said Shippey.
For now though Shippey is focused on staying healthy, getting back on the mound and attempting to help bring his team back to where his favorite Ship memory occurred.
