SHIPPENSBURG- The Red Raiders are getting ready for the 2016 football season, with big expectations for Quarterback Ryan Zapoticky to build on his phenomenal sophomore season.
“Well, Zap (Zapoticky) did a great job,” Coach Mac said of Zapoticky’s 2015 season “He has progressed well, he’s got a good command of our offense and he makes plays.”
Zapoticky’s stats from last year can speak for themselves. He threw for 27 touchdowns and only five interceptions, he had a completion percentage rate of 59.7% and threw for 2,345 passing yards. He also ran for five touchdowns last season and averaged 51 rushing yards per game.
Zapoticky, meanwhile, remains humble with his 2015 success. “I thought I had a decent sophomore season,” Zapoticky said “but a lot of it goes to my teammates, receivers, offensive line, running backs picking up blocking assignments, blitzes, and everything.
Coach Mac wants to see Zapoticky work on being more consistent every practice and every game. For Zapoticky, that means working on his completion percentage, making better reads, and learning when to check the ball down and when to throw it downfield.
Zapoticky and the rest of the Red Raiders will be showcasing their offseason improvements next Saturday at the annual Red-White Game. Kickoff is at 12 p.m. at Seth Grove Stadium.
