SHIPPENSBURG– The Shippensburg Raider wrestling team officially began practicing this week as they look to improve their 10-8 record from last season. The Raiders are led by captains Karl Lightner, Evan Ramos, Dante Steffenino, Mike Springer, and Mike Hafer.
The Raiders are a young team but are returning three national qualifiers. Senior, Karl Lightner, qualified in 2014-2015 season, while red-shirt Junior Evan Ramos and Sophomore Adam Martz qualified last year.
Shippensburg will look to dominate starting from the bottom of the line-up with 4th place PSAC finisher, Dustin Steffenino, at the 125 weight class, followed by 3rd place PSAC finisher Dante Steffinino, at 133 weight class. Dustin and Dante are brothers both looking to reach the NCAA tournament at the end of the season. Look out for juniors Mike Springer and Mike Hafer this season along with incoming freshman Billy Barnes to keep a strong middle of the line-up. Evan Ramos will be wrestling 197 and will look to reach the podium this year at the NCAA Championships.
The Raiders are led by head coach Seth Bloomquist and will travel to Landsville Pennsylvania on Saturday November 5th for a tri-duel meet with Garner-Webb, Drexel, and Sacred Heart to start the season.
