Dr. George “Jody” Harpster announces retirement effective January 20th.

SHIPPENSBURG –Dr. George “Jody” Harpster, the university’s president, announced Tuesday afternoon, he will be retiring at the end of January 2017.
Students were notified by email of President Harpster’s pending retirement saying, “It is with a heavy heart I share with you that Leslie and I have made the difficult decision to announce my retirement effective January 20, 2017.” His message to the university can also be found on the Office of the President’s home page at ship.edu.
President Harpster continued on, highlighting some of Ship’s recent academic achivements including offering the first electrical engineering degree in the State System.
President Harpster served as Vice President for Student Affairs for 10 years before being named interim president. He was then named Executive Vice President and later Executive Vice President for External Affairs and University Relations.
A new University President has not yet been named.
