SHIPPENSBURG -The Cumberland Valley Rails-to-Trails Council awarded the section of the trail from route 696 to the Shippensburg Township Park for a bid of $815,560 to the Hempt Brothers in August of 2016.
The contractor is widening the trail by 10 feet on top of the rail bed and paving the whole trail. There will also be a large pedestrian bridge constructed above Fogelsonger Road.
The crew is expected to have the project complete this spring for a grand opening ribbon cutting ceremony and Cumberland Valley’s Race, Run, Ride, and Ramble Event on April 23.
The Shippensburg Rotary Club will be constructing a trail head facility that includes restrooms and a concession stand at Fort Street adjacent to Eckles Field and is scheduled to be complete this June.
This project is designed to let everyone enjoy easy accessibility to all Shippensburg recreational areas. It will prove to be eco-friendly by encouraging people to ride bicycles and walk or run while enjoying the serene path.
