SHIPPENSBURG –The Shippensburg Women’s Basketball team won its 15th straight game after defeating Mansfield 71-56 on Saturday.
Sloppy play was an issue during the game as both teams were called for 41 fouls combined. The Raiders shot for only 40 percent on the floor, but made 25-of-33 free throws. The Shippensburg defense held the Mounties to just 32.1 percent shooting from the field.
Morgan Griffith and Stephanie Knauer both dominated in the post against Mansfield’s defense. Griffith scored 14 of her 16 total points in the third quarter while pulling down nine rebounds. Knauer recorded her first double-double on the year, scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds.
Logan Snyder and Lauren Gold both tallied 11 points on the afternoon. Six of Gold’s 11 points came by way of two three-pointers, which were the team’s only three-pointers.
The win sets a new record for the longest win streak by a Shippensburg team led by Coach Trn. The previous record belonged to the 2000-01 Lady Raiders when they won 14 straight games.
Shippensburg clinched a first round bye in the PSAC Tournament with the win on Saturday.
