SHIPPENSBURG– The fight against pediatric cancer continues in cold weather style. 21 Shippensburg students, who work as local ambassadors, make up the Shippensburg campus crew for the Love Your Melon campaign.
Love Your Melon is an apparel brand dedicated to raising money for children diagnosed with cancer. For every beanie sold, Love Your Melon donates one to a pediatric cancer patient, while also supporting non-profit organizations.
“Our nonprofit partners work in the field of pediatric oncology, fund cancer research initiatives and provide immediate support for families of children battling cancer,” according to Love Your Melon’s mission statement.
By researching about how to get involved with Love Your Melon, Wein found out that by becoming an ambassador, he could establish a campus crew. After becoming Crew Captain, Wein then sought out 20 other students to be a part of the campaign. By holding promotional events, the crew is able to promote Love Your Melon’s mission, as well as their products.
However, being a crew member does not solely entail promoting the brand. Once sales goals are reached, the crew members are able to meet with the children and their families that are victim to pediatric cancer.
“We actually get to interact with a family that has a child with cancer, and so we get that personal connection with them[…]and kind of make their day better,” said Megan Allison, Vice-Captain of the Shippensburg campus crew.
The Love Your Melon crew will return to the CUB on March 1st. For more information, visit their campaign website.
