SHIPPENSBURG- Shippensburg’s Indoor Track and Field squads won the PSAC championships in Edinboro on Sunday.
The men’s team edged out Slippery Rock by a score of 143-141.5 to capture its seventh consecutive conference title. Shippensburg won four individual events, and placed in 17 out of 18 total events.
The women’s team, meanwhile, captured a seventh conference title beating Bloomsburg, 115-111. The women scored on 14 out of 18 events, while also winning four events.
Coach David Osanitsch was pleased with his team’s performances, despite facing stiff competition.
“It’s very difficult to win on such a consistent basis with such a competitive conference,” said Osanitsch, “I’m really proud of their focus because sometimes you can lose focus.”
Five of the athletes will be representing both teams at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Birmingham, Alabama.
For the Men’s team, Tra-C Davis will compete in the High Jump, and Bryan Pearson and Alec Rideout will compete in the Shotput. The women’s team is represented by Sarah Hunt and Tamara Ovejera. Hunt competes in the Long and Triple Jump, while Ovejera throws in the Shotput.
The NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships is March 10th and 11th.
