SHIPPENSBURG- Academic success is Shippensburg University’s one mission when it comes to the students here. One of Shippensburg’s main ways to help with this academic success is to help the students through the learning center. The Learning Center is located in the Ezra Lehman Memorial Library to the right of the Technical Help Desk. The center is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Learning Center offers a variety of extra help to students in almost every subject. If it is a course taken at Shippensburg, than the center can help. Also offered is writing tips, grammar checks, proofreading, etc. Tutors will sit down with the students face to face for about an hour each session to connect and help with any concerns on the subject that the student might have.
“We do peer to peer tutoring where you schedule with a writing tutor and they help you with maybe starting your paper, editing or grammar checking,” Learning Center receptionist, Brenda Onzere added.
The Learning Center’s main goal is to help students develop skills and strategies that will enable them to become independent active learners.
Receptionist Kadie Weaver mentioned, “I would say I learn best from making flashcards and reading the textbook while high lighting as much as I can. Also, making outlines from each chapter.”
The Learning Center is just one of the many resources Shippensburg University has to offer to help their students with academic success. Other resources such as the career center located in the Ceddia Union Building can help students with their near future choices after graduation.
To schedule an appointment with the learning center students can just go to the receptionist desk located in the library to make an appointment with their school identification. An appointment can also be made via phone call at 717-477-1420.
