SHIPPENSBURG — The Little Free Library a non-profit organization that started in 2009 works to improve literacy rates all across America and a class assignment has brought it to Shippensburg.
A study done in 2013 by the U.S Department of Education and the National Institute of Literacy found that 14% of Americans cannot read and 21% of adults cannot read above a 5th grade level.
The idea behind the Little Free Library is that the community will share and exchange books and in doing so it will encourage more people to read.
You can build your own Little Free Library and put it up in your front yard or a local park or you can purchase the materials from The Little Free Library Organization.
