By Jake Rohm

SHIPPENSBURG – The Red Raiders won in blowout fashion this past weekend with a 51-14 win over Millersville on homecoming.

Ship is now 7-1 (4-1 in PSAC East) and tied at the top of the PSAC East with Bloomsburg, Kutztown and West Chester.

Ship’s dominance in the first half of games continued as they put up 41 in the first half.

In the 1st Quarter, Ryan Zapoticky started his day with a 5-yard touchdown pass to Shea O’Donnell to take the lead 7-0.

Later in the 1st, Zapoticky hits Kyle Haines for a 10-yard score.  Ship ends the 1st Quarter with a 14-0 lead over the Marauders.

In the 2nd Quarter, the Red Raiders lit up the scoreboard on offense, and shut down the Marauders, keeping them scoreless in the first half.

With the combination of Cole Chiappialle and Colin McDermott, Ship’s offense rushed for over 250 yards.  Chiappialle made it 20-0 after a 5-yard rushing touchdown early in the 2nd Quarter.

The Red Raider defense also put together another impressive performance, led by Senior Defensive Back Kevin Taylor II.  Taylor II had 2 interceptions against Millersville, setting up the Ship offense with great field position to put up points.

Dakota Thompson and Tim Bradley both had sacks on the day, with Bradley having a sack fumble in the 2nd Quarter that was recovered by Nick Drawbaugh and returned into Marauder territory.

Midway through the 2nd Quarter, Zapoticky hooked up with Charles Headen for the 10-yard touchdown, making the score 27-0.

After Taylor’s first interception of the game, Zapoticky found Freshman Winston Eubanks for the 32-yard TD.  On the next drive, after the Tim Bradley sack fumble and Nick Drawbaugh return, Chiappialle scored from 2 yards out to bring the score to 41-0 going into halftime.

As the 2nd half rolled along, the Red Raiders tacked on 13 more points and eased to a 51-14 victory.

Ryan Zapoticky finished the game with 237 pass yards and 5 passing touchdowns, which earned him the title of PSAC East Offensive Athlete of the Week.

Senior Kicker Billy Deane was named PSAC East Special Teams Athlete of the Week for his performance in the game.  Deane made a 40-yard field goal, which is his career long.

Ship faces off against Kutztown in a key PSAC East matchup this Saturday.
