SHIPPENSBURG– As finals week approaches, you may be feeling the stress of the end of the semester. I sat down with Dr. Linda Chalk to see what she recommends to reduce stress in the coming week.
“ I would just look at encouraging students to try and take care of themselves really well, recognizing that even if it feels like they can push themselves pretty hard they’re going to feel better, they’re going to think better, they’re going to perform better, if they slow down into a routine.”
Once you study, take time to relax and take care of yourself. With a long list of final projects and exams to study for, sleep can often be forgotten but it is just as important as study for preforming well.
“Most students know that cramming is not an effective way of studying. If they are at the point where the exam is the next day and it’s night before, it’s definitely time to start switching over to taking care of yourself, so have dinner with a friend or do something enjoyable.”
The counseling center is open during its normal hours during finals week, Monday through Friday 8:30 to 5 PM. If you feel that you need an appointment call 717-477-1481.
In addition, there are a few activities on campus that could help with reducing stress. APB has a free massage event tonight, December 7 from 9 PM to 11:30 PM in CUB MPR. Also, the spiritual center is holding meditation classes, Tuesday from 12 PM to 1 PM.
Good luck on your finals.
