HEIGES FIELD HOUSE – Shippensburg Wrestling honored their seniors for the last time on Tuesday against Pitt-Johnstown, losing the match 39-9.
Pitt-Johnstown came into the match with three wrestlers ranked top 10 in the nation and, as a team, ranked No. 11.
At 197 pounds, the biggest match of the night, Ship All-American Evan Ramos faced off against Levi Niebauer. Ramos is ranked No. 1 in the Super Region 1 and No. 3 in the country, while his counterpart Niebauer is ranked No. 2 in the Super Region 1 and No. 7 in the country.
With the score tied 1-1, Ramos ices the match with a late takedown in the third period to win.
Senior Cody Blankenship put points on the board for Ship with a 16-11 win over PJU’s Corey Falleroni at 149 pounds. With a few first period takedowns and 4 near fall points, Blankenship was able to take a huge lead early and hold off a comeback from Falleroni.
Freshman Alexi Castro was the third and final winner for the Raiders at 184 pounds. Castro missed out on two takedowns at the end of the first and second period due to the clock running out, but finished off the third period with two takedowns and a 7-3 victory.
Pitt-Johnstown won 5 matches by pin and 7 matches total. Ship Wrestling moves to a record of 6-8 and will be seen in action next at West Liberty Saturday.
