PHILADELPHIA- Starbucks will be closing 8,000 stores in the US on May 29th to hold a racial bias training.
This comes amidst public outcry outcry after an employee called the police to arrest two black men for trespassing, when the men were only there to meet up with a friend at a Philadelphia store. The event led to a nationwide non-discrimination campaign in support of the two men.
CEO Kevin Johnson hopes the training will remind employees of the company’s mission statement, “To inspire and nurture the human spirit- one person, one cup and one neighborhood at a time.”
